The beginning of a personal investigation into empathy…
Well, I always thought I had a lack of it. Particularly in relation to the media, to news of the world. The onslaught of images and facts, distant, removed, overdosed.
But the present body, the body in space, or depicted in a crowd, on its own. The empathy of space. And a kinaesthetic empathy for movement. The energy in a move.
The inherent, underlying, understanding of a gasp, a sigh, and release, a sustain. How it feels to point the foot, extend the leg, move one’s weight. Gesture. Pull away. Fall. Leap.
The empathy of shifting with a melody, melodiously through time and in space, rhythmically crafting some common sensorial experience…
And what of the empathy of language? Its look, its formation, its visceral connections?
Thoughts welcome.
